Minister assures outback that NBN speeds will be adequate for telehealth

A recent report by the ABC’s 7:30 program highlighted the inadequacy of current communications in outback locations such as Birdsville, Queensland, especially for the provision of telehealth services.  Patients were having to drive to Mt Isa for a simple X-ray, or make a return journey to Toowoomba for a 5 minute consultation.  The Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, assured outback residents that the coming launch of the first of two dedicated NBN satellites on October 1 will resolve these difficulties.  Watch the video , or read the full report here .
